Lab Technicians report direct to the OS (Operations Supervisor).
Lab Techicians perform all tasks in a safe and professional manner.
To perform all laboratory analysis for the wastewater plant including all testing required by the NPDES and process control testing.
Skill Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Have or obtain a class I Indiana Wastewater Operator's License.
Valid Indiana Driver's License and unrestricted driving privileges Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with other city employees Ability to understand basic work instructions Good verbal and written communication skills Self motivated; Able to work independently or staff members Display reasoning skills and common sense General working knowledge of computers Understanding the different types of samples and sampling procedures and operate auto samplers Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors for limited periods of time in inclement weather Ability to lift 50 pounds Climb stairs and use ladders Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, push, pull and other similar activities Conduct visual inspections and read written instructions Must be able to identify audio alarms and hear voice instructions Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job functions Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity are essential to performing job functions Possible exposure to waste material, fumes, odors, wetness, noise, vibration and airborne particles Operational Requirements Lab:
Perform all required reporting, monitoring, testing for plant compliance with its NPDES permit Work with the Plant Superintendent and Pretreatment Operator to develop and implement an industrial monitoring schedule.
Must document all lab test results and quality control documents Must maintain accurate files for laboratory test results and quality control documents Must perform all required quality control sample testing as required by the local, state and federal agencies or as required by the plant manager such as but not limited to:
Annual Bioassay test, Annual IDEM DMRQA testing, and quarterly QC test.
Must maintain all lab equipment in proper operating condition Responsible for proper operation of composite sampler including programing Is responsible for calibrations of equipment whether performed in-house or by outside contractor Is responsible for all scheduling all outside services including but not limited to, calibration contractors, outside lab work, equipment service and or repair Responsible for ordering all chemicals, glasses ware, quality control samples Responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of both consumables and non-consumable lab materials Work on weekends and holidays as scheduled by the Plant Superintendent.
Develop, write and update as needed all standard operating procedures, and other related documents such but not limited to chemicals logs, training records Responsible for training of personnel that are required to perform lab duties Have an understanding of all plant treatment process along with an understanding of cause and effect as it relates to plant processes in accordance with their level of license Maintain all records as required to maintain compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations Work with the plant Superintendent and staff to develop SOP's (Standard Operating Procedure) and forms as required by IDEM Respond to other personnel and the public in a professional, timely manner.
Work well and communicate with others, including public awareness programs as required Work with the Plant Superintendent and staff to develop SOP's (Standard Operating Procedure) and forms as required by IDEM and to maintain such documents in a manner established by the Plant Superintendent.
To participate in the required annual IDEM review of all SOP's and forms Maintain a safe working environment at all times Participate in an employee developed Safety training Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed and required Work with Plant Superintendent and other plant staff to increase efficiency and improve procedures Follow safety rules, instructions, and training procedures Keep Lab in a clean and organized manner at all times Operational Requirements MS4-SMV Lab Technicians are responsible for either MS4 (Municipal Separate Strom Sewer System) or SMV (Streamline Mercury Variance) programs as assigned by the Plant Superintendent Work with the Plant Superintendent to develop and implement MS4 - MSV programs.
Oversee and coordinate task required for the MS4 - MSV program Conduct employee training as required to facilitate the MS4 - SMV programs Job Type:
